I loved hearing about this story during our traditional tale unit of class. Being that my family is Irish, I loved hearing and being exposed to the traditional tale of Cinderella but the Irish version. It takes place in Erin and is the story of a girl named Trembling. She only lives with her father, similar to the traditional Cinderella. Tremblings two other sisters, Fair and Brown, go to church every single Sunday. However, Trembling is left behind at home to do the chores and cooking. She feels left out and wants to do the things that her sisters do.

A henwife comes to visit Trembling and wants to repay her for her acts of kindness. She crafts her a beautiful dress and she attends church but no one knows who she is. She attends church with three different times with three different beautiful dresses.

Trembling is so beautiful that it attracts the attention of many different princes who seek to be with her. It has any traits of the traditional Cinderella but also contains its own cultural details to make it uniquely its own. It would be a great book to incorporate into a Cinderella unit or Fairy Tales. I wish I knew of this book when I taught third grade and did Cinderella Around the World.

This book is appropriate for elementary-aged students.
